The growing trend of adopters in the world
According to the report of the International Energy Agency (IEA), in 2017, 1816.2 million tons of crude oil equivalent (Mtoe) of energy were produced from renewable sources in the world, of which China, with the production of 277.9 million tons of crude oil equivalent, has a share of 15 percentage and has the first rank. Iran ranks 83rd in the world by producing 1.8 million tons of crude oil equivalent with a share of nearly zero percent. Figure 1 shows the share of countries in the world in renewable energy production in 2017:
One of the most important reasons for the non-development of renewable energy in Iran is the fossil fuel resources, especially gas, which has distanced the country from the need to move towards renewable energy. The trend of renewable energy production in Iran shows a growing trend, but the share of electricity production from renewable energy has a downward trend due to the increase in electricity demand in the country, and this is a sign of the lack of development of renewable energy according to the country’s needs. . Figures 2 and 3 show a comparison of the amount of renewable energy production and the share of renewable energy in electricity production in Iran and Turkey in recent years:
As can be seen in the above figures, Iran is far away from its economic competitor in the region in the production of renewable energy. Of course, Iran’s and Turkey’s fossil fuel sources are not comparable and Turkey has more geographical determinism than Iran in the development of renewable energy. The oil countries of the region, such as Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Iraq, have not shown much desire to produce renewable energy, and the amount of renewable energy production in these countries is also lower than in Iran. But for sustainable development and achieving a diverse energy portfolio, moving towards the use of renewable energy is very necessary.
